Allatoona Creek [S-1195] is one of 3 sites monitored by Group [ G-1133] Belwood

Site Description: The sampling site is on Allatoona Creek, about 500 feet downstream from the bridge on Mars Hill Road in Acworth. Closest major intersection is Mars Hill Rd and County Line Road. This is on Army Corps of Engineers property. Channel width about 25 feet; channel cut 8-15 feet deep, with many exposed roots. Not much meander to channel. Entire channel filled and 1 to 2 feet deep. Substrate is gravel to small cobble (2-3 inch size). Evidence of siltation. Some exposed slab rock. Small drop about 1 foot, 50 m upstream. Water 4-6 feet higher during storm event as evidenced by debris in trees. Overstory trees include yellow poplar, red oak, loblolly pine, some sycamore, river birch and red maple to a height of about 50-60 feet. Patches of switch cane, but no privet, on stream channel.

Special Information:I have observed people panning for gold, with a motor driven pump, about 400 feet upstream from sampling site.
